Message The cylinder pressure being generated in a 3.0L engine making producing 1000 + hp is obviously enormous. The ARP studs sold as an upgrade for the Z32 are produced from basic ARP 8740 material and smaller in diameter than the stock bolts. It's my opinion that they are only marginally better than the stock bolts. The elongation of a steel bolt under load is more dependent on the cross sectional area than the actual grade of the steel, because the modulus of elasticty remains relatively contant for various grades of steel. I've done the math, I've spent a lot of time discussing with ARP and it seems clear that the ARP studs sold as the Z32 upgrade are in fact stretching eventually to the point that the headgasket is breached.

We usually do not see the head lift issue right away, it takes quite a few pulls, runs, etc at this power level for the studs to stretch enough to cause a problem.
